Course Descriptions

We are constantly developing our curriculum to better serve the students needs for a fulfilling well rounded program. We will add course material as needed. Courses are planned according to enrollment. The following course descriptions detail the fundamental facets children can learn and experience through their participation.

Voice/Chorus

The class typically starts with relaxation techniques and proceeds to posture and breathing exercises. This is followed with percussive rhythmic repetitions. We continue on to vocalized warm ups. The warm up then proceeds to songs consisting of a different jazz standard per week then a duet in a foreign language. We finish up rehearsing and practicing songs of current and upcoming productions. The goal is for all students to participate in all productions however we are sensitive to the individuals needs. Should they not be ready, they will be encouraged to participate once they feel confident enough.

The benefits of this class are numerous. Children will:

  • Improve breathing and circulation
  • Exercise proper posture
  • Gain vocal confidence
  • Strengthen vocal production
  • Practice and re-enforce physical coordination
  • Learn to harmonize
  • Meet new friends and bond in a community with a common outcome to achieve success and self-esteem
  • Learn respect through cooperation in a group dynamic

Drama

Students will explore the acting in an approach that involves exercises, scene work and theatre games designed to develop performance skills and technique. Students will also learn about the audition process through the preparation of audition monologues and song choices. NoBAC will provide resources on choosing strong material and developing audition techniques. During this time, Students will also audition for, learn and rehearse for NoBAC's quarterly production. Students with a leading role may require additional commitments.

Painting & Drawing

Painting includes learning with acrylics, such techniques as transparent and opaque painting and also the importance of color. Students will learn to really see color and learn to look at the world in a different way.

Sculpture

Students will learn the basic skills to create three-dimensional art. They will have creative control of content and material (where appropriate). They will be responsible for building props, if needed, during productions.

Set Construction

Students will design and construct a model for upcoming NoBAC shows. The group will discuss each model, how it could be built to scale and what would work the best or the easiest and most effective for the show. The students, and the instructors in conjunction with the director, will decide which model or combination of models will be constructed for the show. Students will use a variety of materials and props to complete the project. This may include light carpentry and painting. Parental permission signature required to use tools. There are 3 to 4 shows planned for the course of the year.

Dance

NoBAC may offer a different dance class each day. This may include Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop and Stage Movement. Students will learn the fundamentals of dance as well as how to move on stage during performances.
